I need to develop XML schema for a message protocol which requires bit syntax e.g.?

there are several fields which are 2-bit, 3-bit or 7-bit wide in the message. I want to express message syntax in XSD but not able to figure out how to represent bit fields. Can you guys help me? Any pointers to XML schema development on the web are welcome as well. Thanks in advance.
