Partial hysterectomy better than full hysterectomy?
Well, it depends what's wrong. If your sister has endometriosis, then pain will be lessened if she has uterus & ovaries out. But if it's for another problem, it might be better to leave the ovaries in. It used to be that docs regarded women's reproductive organs as basically nothing important at all once you've had kids. More recently, tests have shown that having your ovaries removed before age 42 has serious repercussions on your health (not to mention destroying your drive and ability to ) , so it's not a good idea to remove them unless absolutely necessary. But the attitude that women's reproductive organs are garbage does persist, so many just ignore the very real risks to life and health of ovarian removal--risks that greatly outweigh the risks of keeping ovaries (provided they are healthy, of course. If there's something wrong with them, then they may need to be removed, as long as the negatives of keeping them outweigh the positives of keeping them). So don't just remove them for the heck of it--be sure there's some kind of positive good that can be gained from their removal, and that that good outweighs the risks of cardiovascular problems, osteoporosis, increased risk of dementia, ual dysfunction, and shortened life span that come with ovarian removal.
