Why are families brainwashed into believing they have to buy a home?

Most often, people have this desire to be recognized by the value of their possessions. This is much more that just a national value. Some of us never really have enough, I guess. I come from poverty. I understand what it is like to make something out of nothing. As long as I have a stable environment to hang my hat and a dependable income, I have little reason to concern myself with exceeding my means.
